Mahallah Khaled Al-Walid
INTRODUCTION
Mahallah Khalid Al-Walid is the new name given to the male Mahallah in IIUM Kuantan. It was first relocated and operated on 27th October 2014 and currently has 4 blocks that can accommodate up to 2,000 students. The name Khalid Al-Walid was chosen as a memoir to a great military leader born in 585 A.D. in a noble Meccan family and died in 642 A.D. in Holms, Syria, where he is also buried. After the death of Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), Khalid would serve as a military Commander under Caliph Abu Bakar and helped him consolidate the umma (community of Islam) when some groups and provinces sought to take advantage of the change at the helm of the umma in the wake of Prophet Muhammed's death and rose in rebellion and wanted to break away and be on their own. Caliph Abu Bakar sent Khalid Al-Walid to get those leaders in line and keep the umma united and strong. Khalid Al-Walid did as he was told and, in the process, laid the foundation of what would later become the Islamic Empire as all the countries of the Middle East would slowly embrace the banner of Islam.
MAHALLAH ADMINISTRATION
The Mahallah is led by a Principal who is appointed to serve as the Chief Executive Officer responsible for handling all its affairs, including administration, student's activities, maintenance, cleanliness, discipline and security.
Fellows are appointed to assist students, especially
after office hours, in matters regarding activities, discipline and welfare.
Two full-time staff assist the Principal while part-time
staff will concentrate on the daily administrative, services and maintenance
requests of the Mahallah.
LOCATION
Mahallah Khalid Al-Walid is conveniently located within the safe and serene IIUM Kuantan Campus. Its close proximity to all kulliyyahs, IIUM Kuantan Sports Complex and the Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre @ IIUM (SASMEC) ensures that students have easy access to all the facilities that IIUM Kuantan has to offer (Figure 1). MISSION
To facilitate the development of students' abilities through efficient mahallah management, providing quality services and fostering well balanced co-curricular activities.
VISION
A leading agency in contributing towards nurturing well-rounded personalities through excellent management of students' affairs and development.
OBJECTIVES
In addition to providing accommodation to IIUM students, Mahallah Khalid Al-Walid also aims to:
- Provide a conducive living environment for the pursuit of academic excellence.
- Foster ummatic links between students of different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities.
- Develop a culture at the Mahallah based on the university's mission of "Islamization, Internationalization, Integration and Comprehensive Excellence (Triple - ICE) Education Centre.
- To provide an excellent, accessible, reliable and secure ICT infrastructure, facilities and services.
