Expert Profile


Currently, he is a lecturer at the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), IIUM.  Prior to joining the University in 1998, he worked as a town planner in a planning firm at Kuala Lumpur. His Ph.D research was supervised by the late renowned historian, William Roff, an expert in Malay society and Islam in Southeast Asia.
His academic experience includes research in the areas of Malay Muslim neighbourhood, Malay Heritage, Islamic tourism and rural poverty. His latest research 'Shariah Compliance Rating Tools for Tourism and Hospitality' was funded by the Government of Malaysia.
