OVERVIEW

The Department of Mathematics is one of the departments in the Centre for Foundation Studies, IIUM.  The Department of Mathematics was established in June 2010.  There are 28 staff in the department which consists of 27 academic and 1 administrative staff. The academic staff in this department will teach Mathematics and Statistics courses for students in Sciences programmes like students for Allied Health Science, Biological Science, Dentistry, Engineering, ICT, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Physical Science programmes.

This department functions as a preparatory platform to provide the knowledge and skills in the field of Mathematics and Statistics.  The students who have completed their programmes can join the Kulliyyah at Gombak Campus or at Kuantan Campus.  Curriculum of Mathematics and Statistics courses are designed to suit the need of the Kulliyyah.

There are two programmes under the supervision of Department of Mathematics which are Biological Science and Physical Science programmes.


OBJECTIVES

  • To offer Mathematics courses for students taking Allied Health Science, Biological Science, Dentistry, Engineering, ICT, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Physical Science programmes.
  • To oversee and monitor the academic performance and activities of the students in the Biological Science and Physical Science programmes.
  • To provide the students with Mathematics knowledge and skills which are required by bachelor degree programmes at Kulliyyah level.


COURSES OFFERRED

The department offers courses:

  • Mathematics I (MAT0114) for the students in all Science programmes.
  • Mathematics II (MAT0124) for the students in Physical Science, ICT and Engineering programmes.
  • Mathematics III (MAT0134) for the students in Physical Science, ICT and Engineering programmes.
  • Statistics (MAT0144) for the students in Allied Health Science, Biological Science, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy programmes.
