General Requirement for Malaysians

1)  Malaysian Qualifications

The general academic requirements for admission into undergraduate programmes of IIUM are as follows:

  • A Pass at the SPM level or equivalent with at leastA Credit in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia or equivalent
  • A Pass in Sejarah at SPM level or equivalent
  • A Credit in any three (3) subjects in SPM/equivalent.

and

A Diploma or any other Equivalent Qualification with a CGPA 3.00 recognized by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the Senate of the University

or

A Pass at the STAM examination with at least Jayyid Jiddan:

or

A Pass at the STPM examination with a CGPA of 3.00 or at least:

  • Grade C [Subject Grade Point (SGP)] of 2.00 in the General Paper
  • Grade C [Subject Grade Point (SGP)] of 2.00 in two [2] of other subject taken

and

Obtained a required Band in the “Malaysian University English Test” (MUET) as specify by each programmes

2)  International Qualifications

The general academic requirements for admission into undergraduate degree programmes of IIUM are:

  • At least three (3) principal passes (minimum grade D) in the General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced Level’ (GCE) ‘A’ Level Examination (UK Educational System) obtained in one sitting; OR
  • Pass in Islamic Studies subject; OR
  • Any other qualifications that are recognized by the Senate of the University as equivalent to the above

Admission Requirements


The applicant must fulfill the academic requirements for admission into foundation programmes of IIUM;

(Endorsed by Senate IIUM No. 462/2019)

(Effective 2020/2021).


Language Requirement

English and Arabic are the two primary languages used for instruction in the University, depending on the specific programme of study.

Applicants wishing to pursue their studies in programmes with English as medium of instruction must present a score of 550 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Band 6.0 the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) (Academic) with a minimum Band of 5.5 for each of the Skills - Writing, Reading, Listening/ Speaking (WRLS).

It is compulsory for those who apply for Bachelor of English Language and Literature to obtain Band 6.5 the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) (Academic) with a minimum Band of 6.0 for each of the Skills - Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking (WRLS).

Alternatively, they may sit for the IIUM-administered English Placement Test (EPT) and obtain a minimum of 6.0 points with a minimum Band of 5.5 for each skill - Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking to fulfill the English language requirement.

Applicants interested in programmes with Arabic as a medium of instruction must achieve an exemption after sitting for the IIUM-administered Arabic Placement Test (APT).

Applicants who are unable to submit satisfactory results in any of the above tests may take up language proficiency courses at the University to fulfill the admission requirements.
