In the mid of October, Pharmacy Practice department Kulliyyah of Pharmacy has successfully organized a big event, International Conference on Pharmaceutical Research and Pharmacy Practice cum 14th IIUM-MPS Pharmacy Scientific Conference (ICPRP 2019). The event was held on 18th - 20th October at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur. 

The theme ‘Drug Utilisation Research in the Era of Big Data’ highlights the importance of Big Data in transforming and enhancing the accessibility, affordability and quality of healthcare contributing to wealth creation for the country. Pharmacy is just beginning to touch upon the iceberg of information available and how pharmacy may benefit from accessing data about patient care, costs and treatment outcomes warrant further exploration. In Malaysia, the focus on big data has started and some initiatives have been put in place to share information on patients’ medical records and knowledge among public and private hospitals and clinics. 


On the Pre-Conference day, the event were started with two talks delivered by Associate Professor Bjorn Wettermark from Karolinska Institute, Sweden and professor Libby Roughead from University of South Australia with titles "Introduction and Future Trends in Drug Utilisation Research" and "Study Designs and Data Considerations when Developing Drug Utilisation Studies using Pharmaceutical Data" respectively. 


On the next day, the conference were started with a registration from local and international participants, Al Quran recitation and welcoming speech delivered by ICPRP 2019 Chairperson, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Che Suraya Mohd Zin. Followed with plenary session 1 delivered by Associate Professor Bjorn Wettermark, arrival of the VIP and opening ceremony with National anthem song, IIUM song and traditional performance.


Plenary session II delivered by Professor Louisa Jorm with titles "Big Data in Healthcare : Challenge for the Future and Innovative Approach". 


Sponsored talk delivered by Dr Chooi Kheng Chiew with titles "EMPA-REG OUTCOME Initiates the Paradigm Shifts in T2DM Management by Boehringer Ingelheim". 

Sponsored talk delivered by Mr Adson Samson Chua Jr with titles "Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs by ESCO".



Symposium 2 delivered by Professor Rusli Ismail & Professor Louisa Jorm with titles "Precision Medicine : Exploring Challenges towards Clinical Implementation" and "Patient Care Datasets : Data Sources and Quality Consideration" respectively.

On the last final day, the conference were started with a registration from local and international participants, followed by Plenary session 3 delivered by Professor Libby Roughead with titles "Data Analytic Systems for Improving Medication Safety in Practice"and Plenary session 4 delivered by Associate Professor Bjorn Wettermark with titles "Use of Big Data in the Development of Precision Medicine". 



Symposium 3 delivered by Professor Louisa Jorm and Mr Amrahi Buang with titles "The Unique Role of Big Data-Patient Care Datasets in Advancing Healthcare Research" and "Halal-Centric Pharmacy Practice in Research Opportunities" respectively. 



Symposium 4 delivered by Dr Saepudin with titles "Longitudinal Studies in Drug Utilisation", Associate Professor Dr Che Suraya Mohd Zin with titles "Big Data Study in Malaysia: Time to Move Forward and Collaborate" and "Drug Utilisation Research in Malaysia: Government Perspectives" by Dr Azuana Ramli.
