BUSTANUL FIZIYA’ BY PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

We have managed to harvest the 2nd batch of Tilapia fish from our PE polyester round poly water tank (2275 liters) on 31st July. The self-fabricated filter system using all the discarded material in CFS Gambang Campus, as one of the recycling initiatives. The tank itself is taken from unused tank that is left at the transport workshop at the back of the campus. The filtration system is made from discarded detergent container and filtration materials. The poly piping is also taken from the discarded piping that is lay out in the bushes.

The fish is harvested after three months. Some of the fish already have eggs in their belly. If the time is extended, some of the fish may lay eggs. The initial size is ten cents. The system uses a close cycle system using a water pump to simulate the flow. An aeration system uses a vibrating diaphragm to pump in air into the tank.

The water from the tank is used to water the other plants in Bustanul Fiziya’. It is a sustainable source of nutrient since the water is rich with ammonia and important minerals.

The harvested fish is distributed among the members of Bustanul Physiya’. The next project is to cultivate ca fish into the tank. We are also plating other vegetable such as long beans (Vigna unguiculata ssp. Sesquipedalis), lemon grass (Cymbopogon), pegaga (Centella asiatica), turmeric (Curcuma longa), Luffa acutangular and Sissoo spinach (Alternanthera).

We are also planting MD2 'Super Sweet' pineapple (Ananas comosus) as the main crop. Currently we have 50 MD2 plants in the garden. The rate of the growth of the pineapple is bigger due to the nutrient from the fish tank. Insya Allah we are expecting the pineapple in 150 days.
