Ramadhan is one of the most blessed and revered months of the year. Ramadhan, the month of fasting, is a gift from Allah SWT., a manifestation of His mercy and reminder of human kind's inherent goodness. Ramadhan is the month of charity and generosity.

The act of charity is highly regarded in Islam. It brightens up the essence of sharing to help deserve the poor ones. Special importance is given to Charity in Islam as stated,

“The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: He who gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will receive the same reward as him, except that nothing will be reduced from the fasting person reward.” [Ahmad, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah, Ibn Hibbaan, Saheeh].”

Charity is mentioned dozens of times in the Quran. The passages below are only from the second chapter, Surah Al-Baqarah.

"Be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity. Whatever good you send forth for your souls before you, you shall find it with Allah. For Allah sees well all that you do" (2:110).

"They ask thee what they should spend in charity. Say: Whatever you spend that is good, is for parents and kindred and orphans and those in want and for wayfarers. And whatever you do that is good, Allah knows it well" (2:215).

"Charity is for those in need, who, in Allah's cause are restricted (from travel), and cannot move about in the land, seeking (For trade or work)" (2:273).

"Those who in charity spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public, have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve" (2:274).

"Allah will deprive usury of all blessing, but will give increase for deeds of charity. For He loves not creatures ungrateful and wicked" (2:276)

In conjunction with that, on 29 April 2021, Biology department in collaboration with Mahallah has successfully initiated Tadarus and Tausiyyah Programme. Apart from that, Zakat and goody bags were distributed to 100 needy students. The needy students consist of 60 sisters and 40 brothers from 5 different Mahallah of CFS IIUM. Strict SOPs were adhered by staff and students during the event.

Among the objectives of the programme are:

  • To get closer to Allah SWT, to seek His blessings and forgiveness by giving more charity and become more generous during holy Ramadhan Al-Mubarak
  • To introduce CFS IIUM staff to the community and encourage social interaction between staff and students during iftar.
  • To instill the feeling of concern, responsibility and charity spirit among the staff toward the poor and needy students by spending quality time with them.

The programme started at 5.30pm with ‘Tadarus’ and ‘Khatam Al Quran’. Then, opening speech was delivered by Deputy Dean of Student Development and Community Engagement (SDCE), Br.Taifunisyam bin Taib. Tazkirah Ramadhan was delivered by Ustaz Mahfuz Saufi bin Abd Wafoor.

At 6.45pm, the programme continued with Zakat and Gift Ceremony distribution by Head of Biology department, Mdm. Haliza Hamzah.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who generously donated and contributed for this noble cause.
