It is our pleasure to inform you that the University is offering the KTP-RIGS SDG

for the year of 2020.

 

We wish to inform you that the applications for the KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER PROGRAMME - RESEARCH INITIATIVE GRANT SCHEME SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (KTP-RIGS SDG) 2020 will be OPENED from 24th APRIL 2020 (FRIDAY) until 22nd MAY 2020 (FRIDAY).  

This special grant scheme is to support Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) involving IIUM as an academic entity (Malaysian public university) and Community and/or Industry.

 

Under this grant, joint research project/s between IIUM and a minimum of one (1) other entity (community or industry) is/are required to ensure dissemination of knowledge. Through the Knowledge Transfer Programme, the University will develop linkages and networking with other entities (community and/or industry) towards fostering national economic growth in line with Malaysia’s aspiration to become a self-sufficient industrialised nation by the year 2020.

 

HOW TO APPLY

 

Interested researchers are kindly invited to apply for the grant by submitting your online application via the Research Management System Version 2 at:-

1.0 KTP-RIGS GRANT APPLICATION - FOCAL POINT

 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL (SDG)

 Each application should fit into any one of the SDGs as follows: -

2.0 APPLICATION CRITERIA

 

1. There should be at least ONE (1) Research Partner from Community or Industry who shares the financial responsibility (monetary/non-monetary contribution) in conducting the project.

i.  A community refers to a group of people, entity, organisation, institution or society who share common characteristics or interests.

ii.  An Industry means an entity which involves in business enterprise that offers products or services. Letter of collaboration and shared financial responsibility between IIUM and the collaborator are to be included.

iii. IIUM and its subsidiaries are NOT ALLOWED to be a project partner.

iv. The Project Leader and Academia must NOT have an interest in an organization that involves profits to academia (e.g. a joint-venture company and a company's shareholders)

2. The minimum number of entities/groups within the selected Community/Industry receiving/benefiting the Knowledge Transfer Programme is FOUR (4). 

3.     The project should aim for ONE (1) or more of the following: -

a.    Implement projects with the organization on an ongoing basis and have measurable results (success and impact);

b.  Increased organizational capacity (not less than 10 human resources);

c.      Strategic collaboration;

d.      The duration of the program must not exceed 1 year;

e.   Priority will be given to sustainable and long term projects while short term or one-off projects will NOT be considered.

    3.0 ELIGIBILITY OF APPLICANTS

This grant is open to IIUM’s ACTIVE academic staff with the following conditions:

1.      All active* academic staff with Ph.D. are eligible to apply for the grant.

2.      Academic staff who are on study leave and unpaid leave are not eligible for this grant.

3.      Only ONE application is allowed per staff.

4.      The budget of the grant is appropriate and meets the objectives of the grant;

5.      The project must involve transfer of knowledge and has impact on the target group(s).

6.      Priority will be given to those who submit competitive proposals.

* Active academic staff as defined by MyRA glossary is as follows :

a) all academic staff including those on secondment, sabbatical leave and attending training/attachment;

b) includes Professors, Visiting Professors, Associate Professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers and Research Fellows who are on salary scheme (not on honorarium basis) and perform teaching / research duties and / or services; Teachers and teaching fellows are excluded;

c) Possessed at least Masters qualification;

d) Those newly appointed must have performed their duties for at least 6 months in the year of assessment.

* For the existing Project Leaders, new applications will be considered if the previous project implementation has reached 75% completion and the said progress status completion is approved by RMC.

* Project Leader who is transferred to other University must relinquish his post. However, he can remain a member of the project team.


4.0 AMOUNT / VALUE OF GRANT

The final amount approved for the IIUM principal researcher will depend on the decision of the KTP-RIGS committee up to a maximum of RM10,000.

·         All publication and related costs are not to be borne by this grant.

·         Oversea conferences / training are not supported by this grant


5.0 DURATION

The duration of the research project is 12 months.

 

6.0 PROJECT OUTPUT

The project must be a project that can produce transfer of lifelong learning knowledge that impacts the project organization's targets and have positive impact(s) on the Community or Industry receiving and benefiting from the Knowledge Transfer Programme e.g.

  i.            Knowledge sharing

 ii.            Skills upgrading

 iii.            Cost saving

 iv.            Production efficiency

 v.            Attitude improvement or aspiration setting.


a)    Transfer of Knowledge

i.            Program modules, training slides and other training materials;

ii.            Improved quality of life – Results of surveys, improvements in graduate marketability;

iii.            Software or technical tools that have been developed in this project.

 

b)    Publication

All projects must be documented in the form of official reports. Appreciation to the KTP-RIGS grant must be clearly stated in each published report.

c)    At least one Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) which may include:

i.            Program modules

ii.            Survey instruments

iii.            Training slides

iv.            Booklets

v.            Application Software

  Note   : Researchers should acknowledge all fellow research collaborators, KTP-RIGS, and other sources of funding explicitly in any publication or publicity.
